Update from December 19, 2023: The first nine children have now moved in with us and have already enjoyed their first breakfast together. We are delighted that we have already been able to welcome the first children, but this is just the beginning.

The residential building I

In the first residential building, we offer space for up to 220 children of all ages. The bedrooms are comfortably furnished and the bathrooms are fully equipped with toilets, washbasins and showers. Our aim is to provide a safe home for the children. The communal recreation rooms are also equipped to meet the needs of the youngest children.

The Security House

The safety of our children and the team is of particular concern to us and we rely on trained security staff to ensure this. We have already employed five security staff.

The building of the wall

The perimeter wall of our site is now fully completed with an impressive length of 2400 meters and reaches a height of 2.20 meters. As an additional security measure, it will be secured with barbed wire.

The staff house

We have created a dedicated living area for our employees, who currently consist of 15 team members. It is important to us that our team also feels comfortable. There is also a playground for the children directly in front of our employees' accommodation.

The kitchen

The kitchen is now fully equipped and ready for use. Fresh food is cooked here for the children and they can eat their meals together in the dining room. The storage room for the food is also located in the immediate vicinity.

The laundry and storage room

This is our own laundry, which we created by converting a container. There is also an additional storage room in this building.

Animal husbandry

Eight cows, twenty-two goats and a large number of chickens are part of our stock. These animals not only provide valuable products such as eggs and milk, but also teach the children how to interact with animals in a meaningful way.

The water supply

It is important to us to be independent and not dependent on third parties. The independent water supply for our boarding school is now complete and ready for use, with a water tower that has a total capacity of 4 x 2000 liters.

The power supply

It is also important to us that we can operate independently when it comes to the power supply. Our power house is located in the immediate vicinity of Residence I and is ready for use. It is designed to supply the entire site with electricity easily and reliably.

We are on the verge of ensuring a comprehensive supply for everyone involved. Construction work on the last two buildings is already in full swing and we look forward to seeing them completed soon.

The medical center

The health and medical care of the children and our team is very important to us. Our own medical center is currently under construction, right next to our security building. Completion is planned for February 2024.

The school building

The heart of our boarding school, the school building, is currently taking shape. This is where the children will receive a valuable education. The foundations of the building are already visible. We are working hard to complete it quickly so that we can welcome the first children soon.

Of course, the completion of the buildings alone is not the only thing that is important for our boarding school. It's not just about the outside appearance, but also about the inside - and by that we mean our team. Over the past few months, we have acquired important certificates that are essential for the opening of the boarding school. The education of our children and their safety are our top priorities.

First and foremost, we have received certification that our property is officially recognized as a school site, which is a basic requirement for being allowed to take in children.

In addition, our team has taken part in a further training course and acquired a certificate that qualifies them to teach the children we take in.

Our coordinator Ayo has also taken part in police training, which has taught him how to handle weapons properly and is now certified. Our focus in this area is also on the safety of the children.

We are optimistic about the future and are convinced that we are already very close to our goal. The first children will soon find a place with us.

At the same time, we have sought to expand our school grounds by 13,000 m² in order to offer even more children a better future. In contrast to German bureaucracy, where the paperwork often takes up more space than the actual building project, here in Nigeria we were able to sit down and negotiate directly with the chiefs of the local tribes. After intensive discussions and an exciting exchange, we were able to successfully complete the purchase!
